The Submission
The Submission
Book for September 2018
Group 3

was first published in 2011. Two years after the 9/11 attacks a jury of important New Yorkers sit on a committee with the task to find the best proposal for a memorial. Amongst hundreds of anonymous submissions they select a rectangular walled garden where visitors might perambulate and sink into thought. However, when the envelope that contains the identity of the architect is opened it turns out that he is a Muslim by name of Mohammad Khan. As soon as this fact becomes public interested right wing parties seize on the opportunity to exploit the situation. A furious nation wide discussion ensues that exposes the two fanatically opposed halves of US society.
